How to SYNC Wii-remotes to the Wii System

We finally got a second wiimote and nunchuck this last week, and let me tell you, it was not easy to come by. After calling many stores every day to see if they got some in, and always hearing them say, “No we are all out”, we finally gave up and were going to wait til after the holidays to pick one up.

We had to go shopping for other things this weekend and ended up walking by a GameStop and so we decided to give it a try on the off chance that they might have the wiimote and nunchuck. Guess what? They had the wii-mote, but no nunchuck, of course! We still bought the wiimote, I guess better to have that than nothing. Well after we left GameStop, we stopped by another one about 10 minutes away. I walked in and guess what? They had no wii-motes, but they did have ONE nunchuck. What are the chances?

Now we are really excited, especially our girls, cuz now they can play some games together. We get home and they pay the Wii Sports and both wiimotes work without a hitch. Then they wanted to play Monkey Ball – Banana Blitz. We put in the game and they went to pick out their character and the second controller would not work. After about an hour of trying, still nothing, so we gave up.

The next day, we decided to try again, and after lots of research, I finally found the solution to the problem of hooking up additional wiimotes to the system to work with all the games.

Here is what you need to do:

Inside the wiimote there is a little red reset button and on the Wii inside where the SD card goes into there is a red reset button also. I had no idea the Wii had a reset button on it also. Anyhow, you need to press both of the reset buttons at the same time to sync them together and all should be just fine. Lights will blink, blink and blink and then on the bottom of the wiimote either the second, third or fourth light will light up, depending on how many wiimotes you might have. But it should go in order, that little Wii is very smart.

Here is a diagram of where the reset buttons should be at:

Hope this helps!!!

Hey! I was sending mail to people through my Wii and I put the controller down for a few minutes to go on the controller. When I picked it up again, it wouldn’t work at all, and neither would my second wiimote. I tried everything- unplugging, resetting… do you think I have a bricked system?

Well if you have shut down your system entirely and checked or replaced your batteries and re-synced wii-mote, then maybe something is wrong. I will do some research to see if others are reporting the same problem. I will get back in touch with you and thanks for my 1st comment/inquiry. I do appreciate it.

I can’t seem to find anything specific with the wii-motes not working while sending emails. Read these forum posts, they may have some steps that you have not performed.

how long does it take to sync? my wiimote simply just blink, blink and blink forever.

It shouldn’t take longer than 1 minute to get your wii-motes to sync. If you still can’t get it to work try looking at the links that I list in my previous comment.

well, i have a problem, emm, my friend told me me to push the sync buttons inside the wii console and then my wiimote started blinking, after that…welll, nothing happens, and i cant find what the prblem is…it blinks but then it stops, and nothing happens (agan) what should i do?

Try pushing both reset buttons at the exact same time. If your wii-mote blinks a bunch of times and none of the four led indicators are lit up, that probably means that your timing was off when pushing the reset buttons. Give it a few more tries.
